Post-Pandemic Moving – Hiring Removalists During Covid-19

Removalists during Covid-19 were one of the few ‘essential logistic services’ allowed to continue through lockdowns. During the height of the pandemic, removalists and removal companies could still move locally and interstate, requiring removalists during Covid-19 to develop safe moving practices with increased hygiene and social distancing wherever possible.

However, even as an essential service, moving home presented NSW removalists with Covid-related issues that needed to be solved to continue working safely and effectively.

These included managing physical distancing with owners and other residents, providing face masks and hand sanitiser, regular Covid testing for removalists, and the risk of employees or clients contracting Covid-19 before or even after a move.

Fortunately, many of these restrictive measures introduced by federal and state governments have been pulled back as we enter “the new normal”, allowing Sydney removalists and Covid to co-exist. However, even with the introduction of a fourth booster shot, the risk of infection still impacts our health system.

Since many of us are returning to work and venturing into public spaces, some are also visiting open homes, attending house inspections and visiting office spaces, which means choosing a COVID Safe removalist with demonstrated covid safety precautions.

Removalists Registered as COVID Safe

Businesses across Sydney and NSW are registering as COVID Safe, providing them with information and support to meet COVID-19-related safety obligations to demonstrate a commitment to protect customers from COVID-19.

Businesses registered as COVID Safe will receive a digital COVID Safe badge for use on Google and social chan, posters on safety and hygiene and reports on how your customers rate your business safety protocols.

Each COVID Safe plan should include advice on:

  • Hygiene and safety
  • Use of face masks
  • Physical distancing
  • Recording contact details of staff and customers
  • Staff health and wellbeing

Businesses should also display to the public and potential customers that they are COVID Safe by:

  • Displaying COVID Safe posters on-site and online
  • Sharing COVID-19 Safety Plan with staff and customers
  • Using a contactless method such as a QR code or tap-and-pay

Are you allowed to move houses during a lockdown?

The number one question sent to Sydney removalists about Covid-19 is, can I move house during a lockdown? Luckily for almost the entire industry, removalists were able to respond with a resounding YES.

However, when people asked can I help someone move house during a lockdown, we all had to say no. Under the Public Health (COVID-19 General) Order, only ‘essential logistic services’ could transport goods locally and interstate, except for Western Australia, due to their hard border policy. Which meant removalists had to turn away friends and family who wanted to lend a hand.

Safety First Relocating Services

We’ve come a long way since the first Covid-19 lockdown, and with updated Covid-19 regulations essentially returning Australia to pre-pandemic, there’s very little we have to worry about regarding home removalist services or even interstate relocations.

That said, national and state health authorities still strongly advise Australians to get fully vaccinated and wear a face mask where they cannot physically distance themselves.

If you’re concerned about the risk of contracting Coronavirus, you need only follow these simple rules:

  1. Get fully vaccinated
  2. Wear a face mask in public, especially indoors or when physical distancing is not possible
  3. Maintain a safe distance from others (at least 1 metre)
  4. Wash your hands often with soap or alcohol-based hand sanitiser
  5. Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  6. Self-isolate if you feel unwell

Covid-19 safety is as much personal responsibility as it is a public necessity. Before choosing a removalist company to help you relocate, ask them about their Covid-19 guidelines so you can work together to create a safe space for all involved.

Take the hassle out of relocating and experience professional home moving services that put safety first.
